The breed’s name “Basset” comes from the French word “bas,” which means low. Their short legs and long ears help trap scents, aiding them in their hunting tasks.

Basset Hounds have a distinct appearance, characterized by their heavy bones, loose skin, and long, droopy ears. They have a large head, expressive eyes, and a deep muzzle. Their coat is short, dense, and comes in various colors, including tricolor (black, white, and tan), red and white, and lemon and white.

In terms of temperament, Basset Hounds are known for their gentle and affectionate nature. They are typically laid-back and sociable dogs that enjoy the company of their families. They have a friendly disposition and get along well with children and other pets. However, they can also be independent and may exhibit a stubborn streak during training.
