The Belgian Shepherd Dog Tervuren, often referred to as the Tervuren, is one of the four varieties of Belgian Shepherd Dogs. It is named after the Belgian village of Tervuren, where it was first developed.

The Tervuren has a long history as a versatile working dog. It was originally bred for herding and guarding livestock, particularly in the region of Tervuren. Over time, its intelligence, agility, and trainability led to its use in various tasks, such as police work, search and rescue, obedience, and competitive dog sports.

Tervurens are medium to large-sized dogs with a strong and athletic build. They have a dense double coat that is typically mahogany with black overlay. Their expressive almond-shaped eyes and elegant appearance contribute to their striking presence.

In terms of temperament, Tervurens are known for their intelligence, loyalty, and high energy. They are highly trainable and excel in obedience and agility tasks. They are alert and watchful, making them excellent watchdogs. They form strong bonds with their families and can be reserved or aloof with strangers, requiring early socialization to ensure they are well-adjusted and friendly in different situations.
